Tour de Lyon

Accueil!

Yesterday I went on a lovely tour of Lyon. We had the opportunity of touring the city on one of those double-decker buses, which was a lot of fun! The only other time that I have been on a double-decker bus is in London, and that was an amazing experience. It was good getting to know the city from a different perspective, since we have been walking everywhere; Lyon is certainly much bigger than I thought. I'm really looking forward to continue exploring the city to the best of my ability.

On the tour, in addition to learning many historial facts of Lyon, I learned that there are two main rivers that pass through the city, Saone and Rhone. It just happens that while trying to find a shop, some friends and I crossed the wrong river, making us have to walk twice the distance to get to the shop. We ended up giving up because it was too much effort, haha. I am determined to find the place we were looking for today though, since we have our afternoon free. Since my classes will be starting on Thursday, I may not be posting as often, but I will post a whole bunch of pictures and stories after my day trips to various surrounding cities and towns with the whole Northeastern Dialogue group.

Below I have added some pictures of the main attractions I saw on the tour. Enjoy!

The bus barely fit through the narrow streets of Lyon.
One of my goals, before I leave, is to visit that castle!

The renovated Place de Jacobins Fountain. Very, very beautiful.

The Bartholdi Fountain by the Hotel de Ville (below).

"Boston Tavern": can't escape Boston, haha.

Hotel de Ville. Can't even imagine how much it would cost for just one night...

These 3 murals are one of the most famous in Lyon, painted by Cite de la Creation artists. "La Fresque de Leyonnais".
"La Biblioth".
I didn't quite catch the name of this mural...

Paranoma shot of the Soane river and the buildings that surround it.
The "Upside-down Elephant" and the "Eiffel Tower's ugly step-sister" LOL.
View of Lyon on river Rhone.
I absolutely cannot get over how beautiful everything is.
This church is the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere...also known as the "Upside-down elephant".

I believe this is the Rhone river. Absolutely stunning.

Every building has such intricate detailing.

  1. Try and go inside some of the churches and cathedrals, they're even more amazing from the inside. And don't break into that castle... x
